Why did cysts develop after a hair transplant?

Cysts may occur in donor as well as recipient area. In the donor area, they occur as small multiple swellings which are generally painless. This can occur if blunt punches are used and if the surgeon is not careful then some of the loose/subluxated grafts may bury below the dermis. So, one should remove all the grafts after coring with punch. In the recipient area, the cysts appear as swelling around the transplanted hair, these may become red and painful. This can happen if graft gets slipped under the skin or piggybacking of one graft over the another. Generally antibiotic ointment is given if the cyst is troublesome then draining the contents after incising the cyst may be required.
