How to take care of Itchy Scalp After Hair Transplant?

May 20, 2019 | By Dr. Sangay Bhutia (Hair Transplant Doctor in Delhi, NCR, India)

Itching on scalp after hair transplant is a very common phenomenon caused generally by crusting or scab formation which happens after the procedure. Less commonly it may be due to dryness of scalp, any pre-existing skin problem, allergic reaction to any topical agent or an infection. It is commonly associated scratching which in turn can lead to infection and graft displacement.

At our clinic, we use strict post operative instructions/ regime which decreases the incidence of infection and formation of crusts/ scabs and promote healing. This involves gentle washing of the transplanted area with a mild shampoo provided by us. Use of antibacterial ointments on the donor area.

Once the healing has occurred and the itching is still persistent then one may use steroid ointment after consulting the treating doctor.
